Several people have been killed in a shooting incident in a small Swiss town with police finding dead bodies in and around a residential building, police said today.

The incident took place last evening in the village of Wurenlingen, canton of Aargau, a German-speaking town of some 4,000 people, which is located about 30km from Zurich.

The gunman was among the dead and some of the victims knew him, police spokesman Bernhard Graser told the BBC.

The motive appears to have been a family dispute and the case is not terror-related, he said. An investigation is under way.

Police found bodies lying inside and outside the residential building overnight.

Neighbours in Wurenlingen alerted police late yesterday after hearing several gunshots ring out in the area.

A witness told Swiss news site 20 minuten that three gunshots had been heard, while another said that three people were believed to have been in the house at the time of the shooting.

All victims are believed to be adults. The identification of victims is underway.
