Ship owners deposit Rs 30 lakh in HC

The counsel appearing for the Chairman and Managing Director of the shipping company submitted before the Court that Rs 30 lakh has been deposited in the name of Registrar General by way of a demand draft dated December 3, 2012.

A petition by one of the relatives of a victim had approached the High Court seeking an interim compensation.

Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar said "as per the earlier order of this court, it is open to the legal heirs of the deceased persons who are the petitioners to collect the amount from the Registrar General on submission of legal heirship certificate."

 

Meanwhile, the Central government submitted that a report on the case will be submitted by December 11.

The Judge also posted other related cases filed by an advocate Vasudevan along with these case for Tuesday next.

The counsel appearing for the Chairman and Managing Director also sought time to file counter in these cases.

The matter was posted for December 11.

The ship had drifted under the impact of high velocity winds in the wake of cyclone Nilam and ran aground on October 31 off a city beach. Six persons perished when their life boat capsized in rough sea after the incident.
