Shiv Sena MLA from Niphad Anil Kadam and others today staged a sit-in agitation at Gangapur dam in the district, protesting the Maharashtra government's decision to release water from the project for the drought-hit Marathwada.
Local farmers led by Kadam gathered at the dam site this morning and squatted there shouting anti-government slogans.
Kadam said the dam was only 68 per cent full due to the inadequate rainfall this year.
Local Congress and NCP leaders too have opposed release of water for Marathwada from the dams in neighbouring Ahmednagar district.
