Silver up 1% on firm global cues

Tracking a firming trend in the precious metals overseas, silver prices soared by Rs 437 to Rs 42,783 per kg in futures trade today as speculators widened their bets.

In futures trading at the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July shot up by Rs 437 or 1.03% to Rs 42,783 per kg in a business turnover of 1,142 lots.

The white metal for delivery in September was trading higher by Rs 435 or 1.01% to Rs 43,625 per kg in 321 lots.

Market analysts said speculative position created by participants, driven by firm global trend as the likelihood of an interest rate increase in the US faded following Britain's vote to quit the European Union.
 

Meanwhile, silver climbed 1.44% to $18 an ounce in Singapore.
