Sofia Boutella in talks to play titular role in 'The Mummy'

Algerian-French actress Sofia Boutella is being considered for the lead role in Universal's "The Mummy".

The 33-year-old actress, who had a breakout role in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" will play Mummy in the new reboot with female monster, said The Hollywood reporter.

Tom Cruise is in negotiations to star in the modern-day version of the film to be directed by Alex Kurtzman.

The movie is being touted to be the first one in a series of interconnected monster movies as Universal hopes to build a cinematic universe out of its popular classic creature features.

The film scheduled to release on March 24, 2017.
