A 28-year-old software engineer has been arrested for allegedly harassing a woman after she turned down his marriage proposal, police said today.
Jerome was arrested yesterday on a complaint from the 37- year-old woman, they said, adding, both had uploaded their profiles on a matrimony website.
The woman had allegedly turned down Jerome's online wedding proposal, following which he repeatedly rang her up on her mobile, insisted that she marry him and even used obscene language during one of the conversations, police said.
The woman stuck to her decision and asked Jerome not to contact her again, but he suddenly turned up at her house on Monday and started abusing her, even as she immediately contacted the local police station.
A police team rushed to the spot and arrested Jerome for for allegedly harassing the woman.
He was later remanded to custody, police said.
