In the current fiscal year, the north circle forest division in Sopore district has earned revenue to the tune of Rs 7 crore by selling 2.61 lakh cubic feet of timber to the consumers in north Kashmir.
"The north circle forest division, Sopore has distributed timber to the tune of over 2.61 lakh cubic feet to the consumers of north Kashmir during last nine months of current fiscal," an official spokesman said here today.
He also said that around 20,000 cubic feet of timber was sold at concession rates to the 973 flood affected families in the area.

The department has set a target that it would distribute 50,000 cubic feet to the flood victims of north Kashmir in the current financial year.
He said that the department seized 9,200 cubic feet illicit timber during the last nine months.
The department also evicted 62 hectares of encroached forest land and punished 14 officials for dereliction of duty and negligence, he said.
