Specialised agency for providing skill to 8 cr youths: PM

"This is an ambitious scheme which can be implemented only through a specialised agency of the Centre. Therefore, we are considering establishment of a National Skill Development Authority so that a skill development programmes can be implemented in a coordinated manner," the Prime Minister said.

In this regard, he invited the private sector and non-governmental organisations participation in providing skill to the youths.

Addressing the nation on occasion of the 66th Independence Day, he said the idea behind the move was to create new job opportunities for the youth in the coming years and give them skills which the economy requires.

 

The target to train eight crore people has been formulated by the National Skill Development Council.

The Prime Minister said the government also wished to provide short duration training courses of 6 weeks to 6 months to the youths.
