Spot demand lifts turmeric futures by 1.12%

Turmeric prices moved up 1.12 per cent to Rs 10,314 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built-up fresh positions, driven by pick up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in far-month May rose by Rs 114, or 1.12 per cent, to Rs 10,314 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,405 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in April gained Rs 96, or 0.95 per cent, to Rs 10,166 per quintal in 22,750 lots.

Analysts said traders created fresh positions, supported by pick up in demand in the spot market amid tight stocks on restricted supplies from producing belts mainly attributed rise in turmeric prices at futures trade.
