Sri Lankan Army today rescued a Dutch honeymooner, who fell from a 4,000-feet high cliff while taking pictures of his newly-wed wife, becoming the world's first man to survive a fall from the Worlds End.

The 35-year-old Dutch backpacker fell off the cliff at 'Worlds End' in Horton Plains, one of the main touristic attractions of the island-country, while walking backwards for taking pictures of his wife.

Some 40 soldiers of the Lankan Army were involved in the rescue mission and ropes were used to reach the man who was then shouldered by soldiers along the 5.5 km long foot track down hill to the nearest hospital.

"He was extremely lucky because he fell on top of a tree," an army spokesperson said, adding that his condition was now stable and out of danger.

The World's End cliff at the Horton Plains nature reserve in central Sri Lanka is one of country's main tourist attraction and receives thousands of tourists every year.
