A Sri Lankan national is among three persons arrested in separate incidents for allegedly smuggling gold into the country at international airport here.
The passenger, who hails from Colombo, was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival from Singapore here on Saturday. He was allegedly found carrying about 2.5 kg of gold concealed in the cavity made in three iron and steel rollers kept in his baggage, a press release issued today by the customs said.
The value of the seized gold is about Rs 61.70 lakh, it said.

In another incident, a passenger was intercepted who was allegedly trying to bring into the country gold weighing two kgs and valuing Rs 49.36 lakh without declaring them with the help of a ground handling staff. Both the passenger and the ground handling staff, employed with a private firm, have been arrested, the release said.
The value of the gold seized in both the incident is RS 1.11 crore. All the three accused have been arrested, it said.
