An 18-year-old state-level basketball player allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Chakeri area here, police said today.
The incident occurred last night when Shiva, the brother of the victim, Aarzoo Shukla, found her body hanging from the fan inside her room, they said.
According to police, on Thursday Shiva had spotted Aarzoo and her classmate friend Jeetesh inside her sister's room, following which he filed a police complaint against the boy accusing him of rape-attempt.
Police said the victim was angered by her brother's actions and that might have possibly led her to take the extreme step.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigations into the matter are underway, they added.

In the 23-page note recovered from Verma's pocket, he claimed that he was under immense financial crunch and had undergone tremendous losses in betting during the IPL tournament.
Verma, who lived here in a rented accommodation in north Delhi's Kotwali area, specifically mentioned how much he owed to bookies and the total amount exceeded a crore, an official privy to the investigation said.
"Probe under Section 174 of CrPC is underway. The contents in the note are also being investigated," DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal said.
