State Transport Dept registers increase in revenuecollection

The Transport Department has registered a 25 per cent revenue increase in 2016-17, netting Rs 86.86 crore through registration of vehicles, issue of transport permits, driving licences androad tax collection,

Transport Commissioner S D Sundaresan said in a release here today that the revenue had shot up by nearly 25 per cent in collection of taxes and other sources of revenue over the preceding year (2015-2016).

He said total revenue collection was Rs 69.06 crore in 2015-16 and this had shot up to Rs 86.86 crore during the 2016-17 fiscal.

He said revenue collection through seven new check posts (for collection of entry permit taxes) in Puducherry and Karaikal regions alone was more than Rs 6.20 crore during the 2016-17 financial year.
 

The total number of vehicles registered during 2016-17 was67,226 in the Union Territory as against 57,454 registered in the 2015-16 financial year, he said.
