Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today constituted a steering committee to monitor and coordinate the state's drug de-addiction and rehabilitation programme.
The committee has been asked to meet frequently to streamline and stringently implement the programme in a time- bound manner, an official spokesperson said.
The decision to set up the committee, headed by the state chief secretary, was taken by the chief minister at a meeting of the State Board of Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation.

Singh said Panchayats and NGOs, along with social, voluntary and religious organisations must be involved to take the programme forward.
He also underlined the need for implementing a post- rehabilitation phase for the victims of drug addiction that would include skill training.
