Press Trust of India New Delhi
Barley prices spurted by Rs 34 to Rs 1,744 per quintal in futures trade today, mostly attributed to widening of positions by speculators, driven by firm spot markets.

Marketmen said a firm trend at the spot markets on robust demand from beer makers amid tight supplies mainly attributed the upsurge in barley prices here in futures trading.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in far-month December shot up by Rs 34 or 1.99 per cent to Rs 1,744 per quintal, having an open interest of 40 lots.

On similar lines, delivery in November too improved by Rs 8.50 or 0.49 per cent to Rs 1,738 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 2,190 lots.
