Thirty seven students of a college in Malda district were today expelled for ransacking the institution building after they were caught cheating at an examination hall and driven out of the venue, police said.
Around 37 final-year BA students of the Chanchal College were ousted from the hall when a team of invigilators, from the Gaur Banga University, caught them cheating during a History examination, Malda SP Rupesh Kumar said.
The accused students came back accompanied by some outsiders and barged into the college building damaging furniture, stationery besides, manhandling professors and tore answer scripts of around 360 other examinees, Kumar said.

Though nobody was arrested in this connection, police personnel have been deployed at the college, he added.
Meanwhile, a three-member team led by Gaur Banga University Registrar Apurba Chakraborty will start a probe into the incident, Chanchal College Principal Gahul Amin said.
There will be a re-examination of the History paper and dates of which will be announced later, he said, adding that there will be no change in tomorrow's scheduled examination.
