Press Trust of India New Delhi
Sugar prices were down by 0.45 per cent to Rs 3,293 per quintal in futures trading today as traders cut down their bets amid adequate stocks at the spot market on higher supplies from mills amid low demand from bulk consumers.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month May traded lower by Rs 15, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 3,293 per quintal, with an open interest of 94,920 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in March lost Rs 13, or 0.41 per cent, at Rs 3,181 per quintal in 70,780 lots.

Marketmen said trimming of positions by participants, driven by adequate stocks position on higher supplies from mills in the physical market against muted demand from bulk consumers, mainly led to the fall in sugar prices at the futures trade.
