The district administration today seized sugar and molasses of a reputed sugar mill for its failure to pay dues to sugarcane farmers, amounting to Rs 75 crore, a senior official said here.
District magistrate K V Pandiyan said that the Bajaj Sugar Mill had not paid dues of Rs 75 crore to the cane growers after February 7.
However, after repeated warnings when the payment of the farmers was not made, the administration officials seized more than 4.78 lakh quintal sugar and more than 2.93 quintal molasses.
The district magistrate said that 85 per cent from the sale of sugar and molasses would be given to the farmers, whereas the mill would get remaining 15 per cent.
