Sonic Multani, who had got the 'boom boom' tag for the speed in which he dominated the green baize in the mid 1990s, will be seen in action after 17 years in the third edition of the Pro-Am National Invitation Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club between January 25-26.

The two-time billiards (1995-96) and one-time snooker (1997) champion, who almost defeated then world professional No 1 Stephen Hendry in 555 Masters World Series, 1991, had stunned everyone to quit the green baize at the peak of his career.

But come Sunday, the 45-year-old will be seen in action partnering his amateur partner Piyush Bhagat as 16 teams, divided in to four groups, will vie for top honours for the INR 3.5 lakh prize money event.

Apart from ace Pankaj Advani, most of the star players including highest ranked Indian and defending champion Aditya Mehta, who's playing pro in England, will compete in the two-day meet.

The team of Mehta and Ravi Goenka were the winners of the last edition of the meet while in the inaugural edition was won by the duo of Alok Kumar and Anil Poddar.

The tournament will also have the likes of former billiards champion and local favourite Sourav Kothari, Brijesh Damani along with Yasin Merchant, Alok Kumar, Dharmendra Lily, Manan Chandra, Devendra Joshi among others.
