Chattisgarh Government today suspended the superintendent of Raipur Central Jail here for failing to maintain discipline inside the prison.
The action follows murder of a convict on November 21.
"Raipur Central Jail superintendent Rajendra Gaikwad was suspended for failing to maintain discipline and control in the jail premises," Director General (Jail) Girdhari Nayak told PTI.

A joint team of Raipur district administration and police today conducted a surprise inspection of the jail during which every barrack was searched, he said.
Banned items such as improvised sharp-edged weapons and sedative drugs were recovered from barrack no 1 to barrack no 12, Nayak said, adding that subsequently the superintendent was suspended.
Deputy Inspector General (Jail) K K Gupta was given additional charge of the jail.
On Monday, Ved Ram Sahu (34), a murder convict, was allegedly stabbed to death by another inmate, Narendra Kumar Sahu (25), with a scissor. Both were serving life sentence.
Before that, on October 3, inmates went on a hunger strike demanding private tv channels and non-vegetarian food in the jail premises. The called it off after jail administration gave assurance to look into the issue.
