Amid rising interest in Chinese martial art forms among Indians, a group of Tai Chi masters are here in the city for a week to teach the traditional artform which has many similarities with yoga.

Starting from tomorrow, the three masters led by Qu Zhiyuan will take classes every day at three schools of the city, including Peimei High School in Tangra.

"I have seen that some Indians learn these art forms through the internet by seeing videos. This time we have brought a group so that anyone can learn," Chinese consul general Ma Zhanwu said.

Tai Chi is popular worldwide as a form of physical exercise and has won widespread appreciation for helping in self-defense and stress reduction in North America, Europe and many parts of Asia.

"It has similarities with Yoga. It emphasises meditation but also has fixed sets of movements for people to repeat again and again and to get exercise as well as meaning of Tai Chi," Zhanwu said.
