Tapas Bhattacharyya appointed VC of Konkan Krishi Vidyapith

Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of universities in the state Ch Vidyasagar Rao today appointed Dr Tapas Bhattacharyya as the new Vice Chancellor of the Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith at Dapoli in Ratnagiri district.

Bhattacharyya is presently serving as the Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Soil Resource Studies, ICRISAT at Hyderabad, a Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.

Dr Bhattacharyya has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for a term of 5 years with effect from the date he assumes the charge of the post of Vice Chancellor.

He succeeds Dr Kisan Lawande whose term ended on December 20, 2014.

Dr B Venkateswarulu, Vice Chancellor of the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University (Parbhani) was holding additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor of Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith.
 

Dr Bhattacharyya holds a doctorate in Soil Science, Agril. Chemistry from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He has vast experience of teaching, research and administration.

The Governor had appointed a Search Committee under the chairmanship of Justice J N Patel, retired Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court to recommend him a panel of names suitable for the post of the VC of the University.
