For this purpose, a task force under the chairmanship of Chief Engineer- Public Works and engineering department has been set up.
The task force will study the situation and submit its report with short, mid and long term plans to link supply of water to towns, villages and hamlets with available surface water instead of ground water, according to an official.
Presently, the major source of drinking water in the state is ground water, which is rapidly depleting in the face of exploitation on a large scale.
The task force, which comprises the Chief Engineer, engineers and other experts, has started working.
