Tata Teleservices customers will begin transitioning to Airtel's mobile network from today, following the recently-announced takeover of Tata Group's consumer mobile business by Bharti Airtel.

The first batch of the transition is being effected in circles of UP (West), Bihar, and West Bengal, the two companies said in a joint statement.

All mobile customers of Tata Teleservices across all circles will gradually transition to the Airtel network, in the next few weeks.

The joint statement said that "starting today, Tata Teleservices customers will start transitioning to the Airtel mobile network under an Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) arrangement".

These customers will have uninterrupted services on the Airtel network with their existing SIMs and will also be billed as per their existing plans and pack benefits, the statement added.

Airtel and Tata Group had recently announced that the Consumer Mobile Businesses of Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited will be merged into Airtel.

The takeover is currently going through regulatory approvals, it added.

"As we rationalise our network assets on a staggered basis, we have decided to begin transitioning our mobile customers to the Airtel network under an ICR arrangement," T Elango, President Consumer Business, Tata Teleservices said.

Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Airtel assured that the "transition will be fully seamless and nothing changes for Tata customers, who will continue on the same SIM and plan".
