Fishermen organisations here today threatened to go an indefinite strike from July 24, condemning Sri Lankan Navy personnel's actions in arresting them and seizing their boats, Fishermen's Organisation Secretary N Devadass said today.
The meeting of all fishermen's organisations here demanded that central and state governments take necessary steps to secure the release of the fishermen, arrested by Sri Lankan naval personnel so far and also their 46 boats, he said.
Devadass said if their various demands were not met, they would go on indefinite strike from July 24, meet the District Collector on July 28 and hand over all documents related to their boats to him.
They would then go with their families to Sri Lanka in their boats, hoisting white flags, he said.
