Three persons drown at Ganga ghat, two rescued

Three persons of a family drowned while two were rescued by locals when they were taking bath in the Ganga river here, police said today.

The incident occurred yesterday when Manish (19), Bhup Singh (25) and 18-year-old Bijendra, Babu and Sonu had gone to Kharkali Ganga ghat to perform the last rites of a relative, Sub Divisional Magistrate Arvind Kumar said.

After the rites, the five went to take a bath in the river and drowned in the rapidly flowing water, he said.

The SDM said while Birendra and Sonu were rescued by the locals, Manish, Bhup Singh and Babu were washed away.
 

One of the bodies was fished out today while divers are looking for the other two, he said.
