The Trinamool Congress legislator from Labhpur in neighbouring Birbhum district, Monirul Islam today visited Ketugram in Burdwan district demanding the murderers of party activist Raja Seikh were arrested immediately.
Islam, who visited the residence of Raja at Merugram locality under Ketugram p.S during the day alleged police were not arresting the main accused, including Ketugram Panchayat Samity 'Sabhadhipati' Zaqir Seikh and the 'Purto Karmadhyaksha' Jehangir Seikh - two of the 26 named in the FIR by the family of deceased after last week's murder.
"I am aware some of the political leaders here have antecedents of unlawful activities. We warn the police to take prompt action or TMC activists will ransack the houses of the accused, including our party men if they are found to be involved, in coming days," he warned.
Police have arrested one person in connection with the murder while the 26 specifically named in the FIR are still at large, Islam said.
