Tribals should not lose their identity, individuality and culture while being integrated in the mainstream, author and President of 'Dastkari Haat Samiti', Jaya Jaitly said today.

Speaking at the 24th session of the Indian Art History Congress organised at Kumaraguru College of Technology here, she said whatever changes are being brought to the system, one should not intrude upon the older values.

Once they come out of the forest areas, they should be provided with opportunities and not subsidy or any reservation. They should be given respect so that they can have a peaceful and happy life, the former Samata Party President said.

The theme of the Congress was 'Dimensions of Tribal and Folk Art of India.'

Former RBI governor C Rangarajan said any historian needs to be aware that they do not impose their own views while digging and identifying facts, he said, adding, interpretation of history was different from records.
