Tripura police officer sentenced

A police officer in Tripura was today sentenced to imprisonment for ten years for breach of trust and negligence in a 2009 forgery case, by a local court.

Additional Sessions Judge, West Tripura district, Kripankar Chakraborty announcing the quantum of punishment, sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment under section 409 of the IPC.

The judge had convicted the officer, Superintendent of Police Manik Lal Majumder, who was posted as Additional SP in 2009 and currently at the headquarters, last Tuesday.

Majumdar had destroyed the documents of the forgery case against a food department employee in 2009.
