Tripura has raised concerns over the import of synthetic rubber from China, Malaysia and Indonesia, and asked the Centre to put restrictions on the shipments to stabilise natural rubber market of the country.

The request was made through a visiting Parliamentary team by the state Tripura state Industries Minister Tapan Chakraborty.

The minister told the team that the rubber growers in the state suffered a setback due to import of synthetic rubber from China and Malaysia and added the cost of one kg of rubber sheet of natural rubber was Rs 250/300 and synthetic rubber Rs 90/100 per kg.

Tripura is the second highest rubber producing state in the country after Kerala, he said.

The 11-member parliamentary delegation, which came here on a 2-day visit yesterday, is led by BJP MP Chandan Mitra.
