Ahead of the indefinite nationwide strike called by truckers from October 1, lorry agents in the southern region have stopped the booking of cargo from today.

"We have stopped bookings for northern states from today to support the All India Motor Transport Congress' demands, especially pertaining to removal of the toll system," Southern Region Booking Agents Association President Raja Vadivel told reporters here.

He said their decision would lead to a loss of Rs 5,000 crore business per day.

Transporters body AIMTC that claims to represent 93 lakh truckers and 50 lakh buses and tourist operators across the country has announced indefinite nationwide strike from October 1 against the toll collection system saying it has become a tool for corruption and harassment of truckers.
