A 50-year old tusker was struck dead by lightning here, officials said.
The pachyderm named 'Thodakat Ramachandran', was reportedly one of the tallest among captive elephants in the state and much sought after for temple festivals.
The animal was tied to a tree in the compound of the elephant's owner when the incident occurred yesterday, they said.
This was the second such instance of an elephant being killed in the district, they said.
