A local court today sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for strangulating a woman and committing theft in her house.

Additional Sessions Judge Anuradha Shukla Bhardwaj awarded the sentence to West Bengal natives Pintoo Bisbas and Manoj Shah who along with their minor associate, facing trial in juvenile justice board, had murdered Sushmita Dev and committed theft in her house in September 2008.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.

The accused were arrested from West Bengal and the police had also recovered stolen items, including a mobile phone, wrist watch and woman purse containing documents, from them.

According to police, the woman was found dead in her rented accommodation in Laxmi Nagar by her friend and maid on September 20, 2008 and strangulation marks were found on her neck. Her servant Manoj was found missing from the house along with his belongings.

The witnesses had told the court they had seen Manoj, rickshaw puller Pintoo and the juvenile near the victim's house and they were carrying a bag. When the witnesses asked them about the bag, the accused had said that they were going to drop their friend at the railway station.
