Two labourers die in blast at chemical plant in Kolhapur

Two labourers died in a blast at a chemical company in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra this evening, police said.

The victims, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were working in an under-construction gas tank at the plant of Unichem Lab Ltd. At around 6 PM the gas tank blew up, said Pradeep Deshmukh, Superintendent of Police, Kolhapur.

The plant is located in Gokul Shirgaon MIDC (industrial estate), around 15 km south of Kolhapur city, he told PTI.

The deceased were identified as Chotuprasad Bind (28) and Girijaprasad Bunity Ben (42).

Another worker Mehandi Hasan Ansari (42) was seriously injured.

Force of the blast was so great that bodies were found 35 feet away from the spot. Further probe is on.
