Two revenue inspectors forced to do sit-ups for coming late

A of district has allegedly forced two revenue inspectors to do sit-ups for coming late in a meeting at Rajnagar, officials said today.

The victims lodged a written complaint with the district yesterday and alleged that the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Basant Kumar Rout made them to do sit-ups during a review meeting of revenue circles at the tehsil office on Tuesday.

The meeting was scheduled to be held at 9.30 am. The revenue inspectors of Righagada and Gupti revenue circles turned up at the meeting 15 minutes late. The rebuked them and later forced them to do sit ups in front of other colleagues.

Reghu G said "after enquiry, the incident was found to be true. Such behaviour on the part of the ADM was undesirable. He has tendered unconditional apology to a delegation of revenue inspectors."

The revenue inspectors were made to do sit-ups at the direction of the ADM. They were punished because they reported for the meeting about 15 minutes late, said Tehsildar Nihar Ranjan Mallick.

The ADM Basant Kumar Rout could not be contacted as his cell phone remained switched off.

They were not kids who were to be taught the lessons of punctuality by ordering them to do sit-ups, said an bearer of the All Odisha Revenue Inspectors Association Dukhishyam Panda.

"It was a humiliating experience. I am still in a state shock," said.
