Two trampled to death by elephant herd in J'khand

A sexagenarian woman and a minor girl were trampled to death by an elephant herd in Jharkhand's Giridih district, a forest official said Tuesday.

Two persons were also injured and 12 huts were also damaged in the incident, that occurred at Koshi-Kanjhia village on Monday, Forest Ranger Abhay Kumar Sinha said here.

The kin of the two crushed to death by the elephants have been given an exgratia of Rs 50,000 by the forest department, he said.

It is also assessing the damage caused by the elephants and will release compensation to the people who have lost their dwellings and to the two injured persons within a month, he said.
