Unaccounted cash seized from car near Coimbatore

Unaccounted cash totalling Rs 1.02 crore was seized from a car during a vehicle-check near here Monday, election officials said.

Though the occupants in the vehicle claimed the money was meant to be deposited in an ATM, the election flying squad seized the money, the officials said.

Besides, Rs 17 lakh in cash was seized from a vehicle in Udhagamandalam, which was reportedly following the convoy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, now on an election campaign in Nilgiris Parliamentary constituency, they said.

Preliminary investigations revealed the cash belonged to a private company in the area, they said adding further investigations into both the seizures were on.
