With the arrest of one person, the Uttar Pradesh police today claimed to have cracked the case of a Rs 10 lakh heist carried out in November in which a salesman was shot at and robbed while he was on way to bank.

The accused, identified as Suresh Jatav, resident of village Maliana in Meerut district, was arrested for robbing and shooting at one Gaurav at Tibra road on November 23, Station House Officer Deepak Sharma said.

Jatav was arrested following a tip off. Cash amounting to Rs two lakh, one foreign-made pistol of .32 bore and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession, he added.

According to police, Jatav confessed to have committed the crime with two of his accomplices, besides admitting to his involvement in more than 18 other criminal cases of loot, dacoity and murder in Meerut, Hapur and Ghaziabad.

"Jatav had made it seem that he was dead to dodge the police," Sharma said, adding that efforts were on to nab his two accomplices.
