Uptick in demand lifts wheat futures by 1.22%

In futures trading, wheat prices shot up by 1.22 per cent to Rs 2,068 per quintal today as participants enlarged their positions amid pick up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in far-month January 2017 surged by Rs 25, or 1.22 per cent to Rs 2,068 per quintal with an open interest of 1,480 lots.

Likewise, the wheat for delivery in December contracts traded higher by Rs 6, or 0.30 per cent to Rs 2,036 per quintal in 10,940 lots.

Analysts said expanding of positions by participants following pick up in demand from flour mills in the spot market mainly attributed the rise in wheat prices at futures trade.
