Hailing badminton player P V Sindhi's silver medal winning effort in Rio Olympics, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today pitched for inclusion of sports in the educational system and encouraging sportspersons from both urban and rural areas.

"The entire country is proud of Sindhu's victory. She has shown the way for the new generation. It is high time that we as a nation pay more attention towards sports," he told reporters at the airport here.

Noting that the country cannot be satisfied with "a few medals" as its population was 125 crore, he said, "We should move forward and make sports as part of our educational system. All state governments must take interest and Central government also must encourage sportspersons in rural and urban areas."

Naidu was here after visiting Tuticorin district to pay homage to freedom fighters.
