Water from Mettur dam tomorrow for Ariyalur, Thanjavur dists

: Water from Mettur dam will be released from tomorrow for Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts for irrigation,following requests from people and agricultural committees, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said here today.

"I have received requests from people and agricultural communities in Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts to release water from Mettur dam for irrigation. I have ordered release of water from tomorrow", she said in a statement.

The CM said about 42,736 acres land will get irrigated in this regard.

She also directed authorities to release water from Mettur East and West canals for irrigation. About 45,000 acres would stand to benefit, she said.
