State Municipal Administration minister, S P Velumani, who opened the dam's sluice gates on the occassion, said considering the storage and inflow, 1,083 million CFT of water would be released for 120 days, till November five.
The water, released through five canals, would benefit the old ayacut area, he said.
Velumani said that under the 'Kudimaramathu' scheme, all deislting works in ponds and lakes, involving the community, had been complted in all panchayats and corporation areas, which would help raise the ground water level.
This would help the public get water without any problem, particularly during summer , he said.
