Water supply to be streamlined in Berhampur

In a major relief to people here, the government has accorded the administrative approval to Rs 126.69 crore "Improvement of Water Supply to Berhampur Municipal Corporation Phase II" project.

With around 4 lakh population, the city is facing drinking water scarcity, particularly in summer.

The city requires 52 million litre per day (mld) water. However, It is getting around 50 mld from various sources, including Dakhinapur reservoir and Rushikulya after supply system, an official said today.

Additional Secretary, Urban Development, A K Ray sent a letter in this regard to public health engineering organization (Berhampur) on June 9. "We are proposed to construct 17 overhead tanks, 11 underground tanks and replace 40-km existing pipelines to cover new areas," Executive Engineer (PHEO) Deba Sundar Mohapatra said.
 

"Water supply will be streamlined in the city after implementation of the project," said MLA (Berhampur) R C Chyaupatnaik.
