Congress' West Bengal unit today said those arrested by CBI in connection with the chit fund scam in the state had "looted public money", while the party's central leadership has termed TMC MPs' arrests as "vendetta politics" to break opposition unity on demonetisation.
"Those who looted public money have been arrested by CBI. So why is TMC hitting the roads and protesting against it? Are they trying to protect the thieves?" Congress leader Abdul Mannan, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, said.
When asked about the state Congress' position as the party's central leadership has rallied behind TMC over the issue, Mannan said, "They have said what they felt. They have questioned the timing. But they have never asked us to stop our protests against those who have looted public money."
