The West Bengal government is plying 41 buses to destinations in north Bengal and a similar number of vehicles from these places today even as train services to the northern part of the state and Assam remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day.
In a bid to clear a huge number of stranded passengers, North Bengal State Transport Corporation is running 41 buses to and another 41 buses from these destinations to Kolkata, state Transport secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay said.
Bus services between the southern and northern parts of the state had remained suspended for the last five days owing to inundation of national highway 34 and 31 and state highways at different places in north Bengal.

Among these, 10 buses will travel to Siliguri, five to Coochbehar and seven to Raigunj, while an equal number of vehicles will leave these points this evening resuming passenger services, a transport department official said.
NBSTC will also run 24 buses tonight between Siliguri and Malda, with 12 vehicles travelling in each direction.
Apart from these, six air-conditioned buses will also ply to Siliguri from here, the official said.
Eastern Railway is running trains up to Malda from here. Services beyond Malda has remained suspended owing to waterlogging of tracks due to floods in North Bengal, Bihar and Assam.
Train services to different destinations in north Bengal and Assam from Howrah and Sealdah stations here were suspended today also, making it the sixth consecutive day that services have remained disrupted, an ER spokesman said.
