Wheat prices strengthened by 0.48 per cent to Rs 1,671 per quintal in futures market today as speculators engaged in enlarging their positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for May delivery rose by Rs 8, or 0.48 per cent, to Rs 1,671 per quintal, with an open interest of 10,040 lots.

On similar lines, the wheat for delivery in April gained Rs 4, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 1,631 per quintal in 2,050 lots.

Analysts said widening of speculative positions by participants on the back of rising demand from flour mills amid pause in supplies mainly kept wheat prices higher at futures trade.
