Woman kills ailing teenage son, self

Frustrated over her teenage son's prolonged ailment, a 45-year-old woman killed him by setting him on fire before immolating herself here today.

Police said Vijayalakshmi was upset as her 15-year-old son Manikandan had been suffering from tuberculosis and could not be cured despite hospitalisation and huge treatment cost.

She took the extreme step when her husband, a cook, had gone out for work.

Neighbours saw smoke coming out from the house and informed police, who found the mother and son charred to death.
