Youth arrested for sexually abusing minor girl

A 23-year-old youth was arrested today for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl in Mananthavady in the district, police said.

He was arrested under various sections of POSCO Act following a complaint by the girl.

The accused, identified as one Shijo George, is a former Co-ordinator of Kerala Catholic Youth Movement of Mananthavady Diocese.

Police said that the youth molested the 17-year-old girl and impregnated her and she gave birth to a child in December last year. The baby was shifted to an adoption centre of a convent in Kozhikode district.

The accused promised to the paretns of the girl that he wouldmarry her. But the parents of the youth did not permit him to marry her.
 

Following this, he made a futile attempt to commit suicide, they added.
