Zinc prices declined by 1.40 per cent to Rs 137.70 per kg in futures trading today as speculators reduced positions amidst sluggish demand in the spot market amid a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc prices for delivery in November month traded lower by Rs 1.95, or 1.40 per cent to Rs 137.70 per kg in business turnover of 3,847 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in December contract shed Rs 1.80, or 1.29 per cent to Rs 138.05 per kg in 3,391 lots.

Analysts said the fall in zinc prices at futures trade was due to subdued demand from consuming industries in the spot market amidst a weak trend in base metals in global markets.
