Zinc prices moved up by 0.90 per cent to Rs 151.40 per kg in futures trading today as speculators built up fresh positions, driven by a firm trend overseas amid pick up in demand in the domestic spot market.
The exchange remained closed for the morning session on account of 'Muharram'.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in October month rose by Rs 1.35, or 0.90 per cent to Rs 151.40 per kg in business turnover of 2,593 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in November contracts traded higher by Rs 1.25, or 0.83 per cent to Rs 152.05 per kg in 82 lots.
Market analysts attributed the rise in zinc futures to fresh positions created by participants on the back of a firm global trend and increased demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot markets.
Globally, zinc for delivery in three month rallied 0.7 per cent on the London Metal Exchange.
